GT Responds to COVID-19 Emergency with Online Fundraiser

This spring, as we all tried to navigate the uncharted waters of the COVID-19 emergency, it was a challenge to find things to celebrate. But thanks to those who generously contributed to GT’s emergency campaign, we're happy to report some very good news. The results of our online fundraiser are in and our efforts were a big success, amounting to over $77,000 to help local people in need!

Over a 10-day period, April 7-17, 2020, GT raised nearly $19,000 from 89 members, volunteers and friends. Add to that amount GT’s $10,000 match. In addition, two very generous members — who wish to remain anonymous — offered a second challenge match of $10,000 halfway through the campaign. Combined, this brings the total raised to $38,750, which we donated to the Greater Washington Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. There, it was doubled - to over $77,000 by the Community Foundation's major donors.

We can all take pride in this amazing effort!

Our COVID campaign was an all-volunteer group project and GT’s first-ever online fundraiser. The GT board started it off in late March, when they decided to cancel our normal spring event that benefits our Emergency Fund and replace it with a virtual one. Our spring-event committee quickly switched from party planning to helping plan the online format and messaging. Then, GT’s talented webmaster stepped up to build the fundraising vehicle on our website platform, developing a mechanism for online contributions.

All these members did a fabulous job, enabling GT to fulfill our mission of “Giving Together” at a time when our community needed us most.
