2019 Annual Meeting

Fall Meeting 2019

On Thursday, September 26, 2019, members gathered for GT’s 2019 Annual Meeting. President Karen Gilgoff provided a recap of activities throughout our 10th Anniversary year and announced new plans for GT’s future. She also welcomed members who joined since the last Annual Meeting: Nancy Altman, Nancy Donaldson, Amy Peck Abraham, Joanie Golden, Sandra Shorr, Lisa Stark, Nancy Ebb, Nedra Weinstein and Margot Zimmerman.

A big part of a packed agenda focused on our current grantees. We heard from Jen Stillerman, the Program Director for TARGET, the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project’s program for at-risk teens. Jen reported on the progress made in the first year of their two-year GT grant, which totals $50,000.

Members also heard from Ellen Krouss, Assoc. Dir. of Partnership Development at KaBOOM! - the nationwide non-profit builder of play spaces and manager of GT’s Multi-Sport Court project in PG County. Ellen and Grants Committee co-chair Renee Licht described our much anticipated Build Day with our selected partner - John H. Bayne Elementary School in Capitol Heights, MD.

Bayne PTO President (and powerhouse) Sherri Howard spoke as well, thanking GT for choosing the school for our Sport Court. She introduced her VP, Pam Whitehead, and their young sons, both students at Bayne.

GT Vice-Pres. Paula Norwood urged members to volunteer for Sport Court Build Day on Oct. 26. She invited volunteers to sign up on a big flip chart and conducted a raffle of KaBOOM! “swag,” such as logo T-shirts, tote bags and stadium blankets. Everybody remarked on the level of excitement in the room as we all envisioned the Sport Court becoming a reality.

In other business, we elected two new board members — Susan Alberts and Carolyn Miller — and re-elected Christine Kessides. GT is moving forward with committee restructuring and a membership-wide strategic planning meeting this fall. As usual, GT won’t let our small size curb our ambitions. We think BIG.
